* I picked Andrew Jacobson, but am being told he won’t be eligible, so I changed my pick to Zakuani. Martin had no idea who to pick for newcomer, so I picked Celades for him in sticking with his apparent Red Bull love-fest.

Some other contenders that were bandied about were Blanco (Fire) for MVP, Maykel Galindo (CHV) for Golden Boot, Alfredo Pacheco (NY) for Defender of the Year, John Bucsh (Fire) for GK of Year, Preki (CHV) and Dennis Hamlett (Fire) for Coach of Year, Rodney Wallace (DC) for Rookie of Year, and Cam Weaver (SJ) and Pablo Vitti (TFC) for Newcomer of Year.

Of interest if you’re breaking down our picks is the dearth of DC picks considering we are such homers. Also, I picked RSL and the Fire to sweep the major awards, while John concentrated on LA for a lot of hardware. Everyone else pretty much spread the wealth around. There’s a lot of love for Seattle on that list too, even though historically expansion teams rarely garner awards.

So there you have it. I believe we at Unitedmania got at least two picks right last year, and we average at least one good guess a year. The gauntlet has been thrown down once again, see if you can do any better.
