After a year of exile in Colorado, Christian Gomez and DC United are reuniting for the 2009 season, and though it is a conservative and possibly short sighted decision, I must say given the deal they made to get him back I am starting to come around myself after some initial misgivings.
Major League Soccer announced today that Crew midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto has been voted the 2008 MLS Volkswagen Most Valuable Player, awarded to the player who earns the most votes in polling of MLS players, general managers, coaches, and members of the media. Schelotto, who leads the Crew into its first-ever appearance in the MLS Cup Championship this Sunday (Nov. 23), becomes the first player in Crew history to win the prestigious league MVP award.
