Major League Soccer announced today that Crew midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto has been voted the 2008 MLS Volkswagen Most Valuable Player, awarded to the player who earns the most votes in polling of MLS players, general managers, coaches, and members of the media. Schelotto, who leads the Crew into its first-ever appearance in the MLS Cup Championship this Sunday (Nov. 23), becomes the first player in Crew history to win the prestigious league MVP award.

D.C. United loses Brian Carroll in MLS Expansion Draft

The San Jose Earthquakes today selected D.C. United midfielder Brian Carroll in the 2007 Major League Soccer Expansion Draft. San Jose selected one player each from 10 of the 13 MLS teams. The Colorado Rapids, Kansas City Wizards and Real Salt Lake were the three teams that did not have a player selected in the draft. Each of the 13 teams was allowed to protect 11 players, leaving all others unprotected and available for selection by the Earthquakes.
