United Wins, but loses

DC United managed to defeat Mexico’s Pachuca 2-1 at RFK Stadium behind goals from second half subs Rod Dyachenko and Franco Niell, but their late second half rally wasn’t enough to send them to the finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Despite the win the Black-and-Red lost 3-2 on aggregate to the defending CONCACAF Champion Cup winners. Pachuca is headed to the tournament finals where they will face the winner of the Houston Saprisa contest.

D.C. United’s Luciano Emilio named MLS MVP

Major League Soccer announced today that Luciano Emilio become the league’s twelfth MVP. Emilio joins Marco Etcheverry and Christian Gomez in the league’s elite group of players. The award gives United another accolade, making it the only team in league history with back-to-back MVP winners; Christian Gomez earned the trophy in 2006.
