Six DC United players were among the 29 players called into the US men’s national team training camp in January.
The six included Bobby Boswell, Brian Carroll, Alecko Eskandarian, Josh Gros, Bryan Namoff and Troy Perkins. That led all of MLS.
The training camp runs from Jan. 3 to Jan. 21 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
Two friendlies are on the schedule for the USA and new interim coach–and former DC United assistant–Bob Bradley: Denmark on Jan. 20 at the HDC and Mexico on Feb. 7 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona.
Boswell was the 2006 MLS defender of the year, starting 30 matches, while Perkins was the league’s goalkeeper of the year. Gros started 29 matches in 2006, finishing with five goals and three assists. Carroll, meanwhile, led the team in minutes played. Namoff started 25 of the 26 matches he played. Eskandarian finished the season with seven goals, which doesn’t include the goal he scored in a friendly against world-power Real Madrid.
Of the United players, only Carroll and Eskandarian were in the US national team player pool.
United begins play in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup at CD Olimpia of Honduras Feb. 20-22. The return leg in DC will be at RFK Stadium either Feb. 28 or Mar. 1.
