Deservedly or not, since becoming majority owner of DC United before 2007, Will Chang has presided over maybe the greatest run of underachievement in DC United history and considering DC’s underwhelming roster decisions in preparation for the 2010 season, that string of mediocrity seems sure to continue.
The first draft of the Onalfo era is upon us, and since United is still paying the price for trading away picks, they really only have one decent pick in a draft that is not expected to be anywhere near as deep as last year’s bonanza, so United’s braintrust better make that seventh overall pick count and hope for a diamond in the rough with those later picks in the third and fourth rounds.
Another draft day in MLS is upon us and DC United’s brainstaff has to come together pretty quickly if they are maximize their limited picks. Unfortunately, it appears that although United has a new coach in place with Onalfo, the same old front office thinking might hamper his ability to create the team he wants in to get DC United back to its rightful place in the universe.
